Fan Sues Cardi B over Assault via Microphone
The alleged victim is now seeking monetary compensation, alleging that Cardi B’s viral microphone toss caused her physical and emotional harm A woman who claims she was struck by a microphone Cardi Bthrew during a 2023 performance inLas Vegasis suing the famous performer forassault and battery, claiming that the incident injured her and humiliated her. The plaintiff is also suing Drai’s Beachclub, the venue that hosted the contentious concert, for negligence. But Jane Doe, of Cleveland, decided to file the lawsuit anonymously due to concerns over her mental health as a result of the incident. Her legal challenge revolves around a moment thatwent viralacross social media last July, when Cardi B threw her microphone into the crowd after a fan splashed her with a drink during her performance of “Bodak Yellow.” Recordings of the incident circulated online rapidly, prompting a police investigation. While authorities did not file criminal charges at the time, the plaintiff claims this occurrence was more than just a meme and caused real physical and emotional trauma. Doe also wishes to avoid potential backlash from the lawsuit, another reason to remain anonymous. The lawsuit claims that the performeractively encouragedfans to splash her with water to cool off, and some concert attendees did so with no issues. Doe claims she also joined in by tossing part of her drink toward the stage, only to be met with what she describes as a violent, extreme response. Doe is also targeting Drai’s Beachclub, suing the venue for negligence. Her attorneys argue that Drai’s did not ensure adequate securityand failed to contain the public once the situation got chaotic. Meanwhile, Cardi B’s lawyer, Drew Findling, did not hold his disdain, labeling the suit a cynical money grab to ngake advantage of the rapper. Authorities closed this matter for insufficient evidence a long time ago, but apparently the opportunity to try to make money off of a celebrity was too much for some willing law firm to pass up. Doe’s lawyers expressed confidence, arguing that no celebrity was above the law. They hoped that Doe’s cause would send a message, holding the rich and famous accountable for their misdeeds. The court will have to decide whether Cardi B’s reaction amounted to assault or was just part of the show. This is not the only recent legal showdown in Las Vegas. Earlier this month, TheVenetian Resortopted to settle in a case involving allegedreligious discrimination. The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleged that the property hadrefused to honorthe religious beliefs of employees practicing different faiths.
